HOW DO I GET TO LIVINGSTONE, ZAMBIA?
Best way to get to Livingstone
Fly from your home city via Johannesburg (South Africa) to
Livingstone airport. Nationwide Airlines, South African
Airways and British Airways all connect to Livingstone. To
date Nationwide
Airlines have been the most 'kayak friendly'.
Visa waiver for entry into Zambia via Livingstone airport is
almost 100%.
Sometimes a cheaper alternative is to fly direct to
Lusaka. From Lusaka a 6 hour luxury bus journey to Livingstone
awaits you. This option is sometimes cheaper and no
problem for the experienced traveller.
Visa waiver for Lusaka airport is less reliable, organised
through Chachacha Backpackers
in Lusaka. Due to logistical difficulties Chachacha
charge a small fee for this service.
*Alternatively
Another
option is to fly into Harare, Zimbabwe and from there to
Victoria Falls by plane, train or bus.
The Harare/Victoria Falls leg by plane can often be a problem
with kayaks. Free entry visas for Zambia can be organised
if you choose this option, however visas for Zimbabwe cannot
be avoided in any way. We can organise a free pickup at the
Victoria Falls, Zambian border post.
Driving
For those driving up from South Africa, the best way is
though Martin's Drift border post into Botswana and then
through to the Kazangula ferry-crossing. A visa waiver can be
organised for this point of entry. (Not necessary
for South African passport holders.)
